Almaty Mayor Yerbolat Dossayev met with Beijing Mayor Yin Yun as part of his working visit to the People's Republic of China. During the talks, the parties discussed the possibility of strengthening bilateral partnership between the cities. Particular attention was paid to the development of transport infrastructure, improving the environmental situation and creating a comfortable urban environment.
One of the main issues of the meeting was the environmental situation of cities. According to Yin Yun, over the past 20 years, Beijing has achieved a significant reduction in the level of harmful emissions into the atmosphere. This is the result of a systematic environmental policy, a scientific approach and technological innovation. Reducing pollution levels is carried out on the basis of the Beijing Master Plan adopted in 2016. This plan provides for the expansion of the metro system, the development of a convenient transport system aimed at environmentally friendly transport, and the creation of low-emission zones (LEZ), which will restrict the movement of vehicles that do not meet environmental requirements.
During the conversation with the mayor of Beijing, Yerbolat Dossayev noted that measures are currently being taken in Almaty to protect atmospheric air, prevent point-based construction, form the city's transport infrastructure and develop high-speed rail and public transport. The mayor of Almaty announced that a new Almaty Master Plan was adopted in May 2023, which has not been revised for more than 20 years. The basis of this plan is the principle of polycentric development aimed at reducing the burden on the historical center. Such measures will allow for the balanced development of the urban environment.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and expressed confidence that the development of partnership between Almaty and Beijing will contribute to the economic growth and sustainable development of the two cities of Kazakhstan and China.
