Victor Ryzhkov, a 10th grade student at the Aleksandrov school in the Kostanay district, under the guidance of his teacher Vitaly Bazarkin, developed an innovative project called “Smart Bridge” to prevent bridges from collapsing in the event of a sharp rise in water levels during floods.

According to Victor, the idea came to him during the floods that caused significant damage in his native Kostanay district and other regions of Kazakhstan in the spring of 2024.

“Smart Bridge” is an automated system that raises a bridge using sensors that respond to the threshold water level and an Arduino programmable microcontroller.

“My goal is to create a system that helps people and infrastructure prepare for floods. The project went through several stages, we had difficulties in choosing a lifting mechanism, but we were able to successfully implement our idea,” Viktor Ryzhkov noted.

The system shows great potential for use in real situations. In the future, Viktor plans to improve the model by adding the ability to raise the bridge in stages, as well as integrating a radio module to automatically send messages to special services, which is expected to allow special services to quickly respond to changing situations.

The project has already won first place in the Republican contest of innovative ideas “First step to a great invention” in the nomination “Technical design in the field of industry.”
