The safety of Almaty residents is a fundamental priority. This was announced by the mayor of the city, Yerbolat Dosayev, at an on-site briefing at the CCS in Almaty.
In order to minimize natural risks, for the first time since 1974, slopes have been cleared on the Mokhnatka and Gorelnik mountains, preventive maintenance has been carried out on 6 moraine lakes and the Esentai riverbed has been strengthened.
The most important task is to increase seismic safety. A seismic audit was conducted of 10,916 objects (1,641 multi–apartment buildings, 9,275 civilian objects). On October 17 of this year, an urban seismic survey was conducted using the Mass Alert public notification system.
In order to improve the automated earthquake early warning system, 70 additional seismic stations will be installed in 2025-2026.
