Preparation for the 2025 flood season: preventive measures and risk minimization

The Ministry of Emergency Situations continues to actively prepare the country's regions for the flood season of 2025. As part of comprehensive measures, a variety of flood control measures are being implemented to protect the population and infrastructure from threats associated with spring river flooding.
In order to prevent possible consequences of floods, local executive authorities, together with Emergency Departments, are carrying out work on the construction and strengthening of protective dams and ramparts, the creation of drainage channels and ditches, as well as the construction of new storm systems and culverts. All these measures are aimed at creating reliable flood protection infrastructure.
Atyrau region: a set of measures to reduce flood risks
In Atyrau region, emergency situations, together with local authorities, are carrying out a set of measures aimed at reducing the risk of emergencies during the spring flood. "Based on the experience of the current spring flood, we have identified the areas most susceptible to flooding. Protective dams and ramparts are being built, protective structures are being repaired, as well as works on shore reinforcement and dredging of rivers. Construction of new access pipes on highways and reconstruction of the automobile bridge is underway. Supplies of fuel, lubricants and inert materials, as well as bags, have already been prepared locally. We have also identified temporary accommodation facilities for the victims," said Nurlan Zhanabayev, head of the Atyrau region Emergency Department.
Kyzylorda region: strengthening dams and monitoring the situation
In the Kyzylorda region, special attention is paid to the safety of floodwater passage through the Syrdarya River. The readiness of civil protection services and formations for possible emergencies has been checked in the region. The water level in the river is constantly monitored. Work is underway to strengthen the dam on the riverbank in the city of Kyzylorda. Currently, work has been carried out on the reconstruction of the dam along Tauelsizdik Avenue, on an area of 1080 meters. 388 gabion grids have been installed, and the project will be completed in 2025.
Turkestan region: improvement of reservoirs and protective structures
In the Turkestan region, in order to minimize the threat of flooding in the upcoming flood period, a set of preventive measures is being carried out in accordance with the engineering work plan. Major repairs of the Kapshagai reservoirs in Baydibek district and Karaspan in Ordabasi district, as well as the Yrmak-Uzen and Maidantal reservoirs in Sauran district have already been completed. The stability of these facilities contributes to the safe regulation of flood waters. Flood control works were also successfully carried out in Tulkubassky, Tolebiysky, Saryagashsky, Sayramsky, Kelessky and Ordabasinsky districts.
All work on preparing the regions for the flood period of 2025 is under special control. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, together with other interested government agencies, will continue to implement preventive measures aimed at reducing flood risks and ensure that all services are ready for possible emergencies.
