Today, within the framework of the 74th session of the WHO Regional Committee for Europe in Copenhagen (Denmark), Minister of Health Akmaral Alnazarova and Head of the WHO European Office Dr. Hans Kluge discussed a number of initiatives aimed at strengthening the health system of Kazakhstan.
The parties agreed to promote the initiative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan to create a Coalition of countries on PHC at the global level and to organize the Secretariat of the Coalition on the basis of the Geographically remote WHO PHC office in Almaty.
"Kazakhstan is interested in promoting this issue at the level of Heads of State and Government during the high-level meeting of the UN General Assembly in September 2025 in New York and the presentation of the Coalition of Countries on PHC. It is necessary to combine our efforts to effectively prepare for this high-level event, where we will be able to demonstrate the results of the Coalition's work," the minister noted during the meeting.
Further, the special relevance of the goals and objectives related to the prevention of diseases, obesity, increasing the level of physical activity of the population, improving nutrition, reducing the marketing of unhealthy food and other areas that will form the basis of the National Strategy until 2030 was noted. Dr. Kluge expressed his willingness to support the implementation of this step to improve the health of the nation.
Taking into account Kazakhstan's long-term successful experience in reducing the burden of tuberculosis, an initiative was voiced to open a "WHO Best Practices Center for the Elimination of the tuberculosis epidemic" in our country. It is expected that the opening and operation of this center will contribute to strengthening efforts to combat TB, exchange of experience between countries, dialogue and coordination of activities not only in Central Asia, but also in the WHO European region.
At the end of the meeting, the parties highly appreciated the ongoing work under the Two-Year Cooperation Agreement for 2024-2025 and expressed confidence in the development of further active cooperation.
