A large-scale expansion project has been launched at the Karaganda CHPP-3. It is planned to install a new power unit by 2028. The increase in capacity is extremely important, as the city is actively being built up. A plan has been developed to ensure reliable energy supply to the region and meet the growing demand for heat and electricity.
The expansion of CHP-3 is one of the points of this strategy. The project of Karaganda Energy Center LLP, which is part of the Kazakhstan Municipal Systems Group of companies, is being implemented with the support of the Akimat of the Karaganda region. A contract has been signed with the Eurasian Development Bank for financing.
"Our cooperation will allow us to introduce modern technologies, improve the reliability of energy supply and contribute to the development of the Karaganda region," said Ruslan Dalenov, Deputy Chairman of the EDB Board.
"The company has assumed obligations to the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan to further expand the capacity of CHP-3. An investment agreement has been signed on the implementation of a project to install an additional power unit. The commissioning of new equipment – a boiler unit and a turbine – will increase the electric capacity of the plant by 140 MW and the thermal capacity by 180 Gcal/h," noted Karaganda Energy Center LLP.
Advanced solutions are provided for the design of the new power unit. The new boiler unit will be equipped with modern environmental equipment, which will reduce environmental pollution. In addition, the project will create 55 new jobs.
– The expansion of CHP-3 is not just an investment in energy, it is a contribution to the future of the region and the well—being of its residents. Thanks to the installation of a new power unit, we are not only strengthening the energy supply to the Karaganda region, but also working to improve environmental production standards. In addition, the project provides for an increase in jobs," says Sabyrgali Idrissov, General Director of Kazakhstan Municipal Systems LLP.
This is not the first project to expand the station. In 2012, a new turbine was introduced, and in 2016, a power unit. But every year the shortage of thermal power is growing. The solution to this problem is urgent.
