The World Sambo Championship is being held in Astana, at the Zhaksylyk Ushkempirov Martial Arts Palace. A wrestler from the region Abai Esentai Imakhanov, who won a gold medal in the weight category up to 64 kg, performed as part of the national team of Kazakhstan. In the final, he defeated a wrestler from Uzbekistan and became the world champion.
Another wrestler from the Abai region, Maratbek Rakhmettolin, won a bronze medal in combat sambo.
