Another international meeting on Syria is taking place in Astana

On November 11, 2024, the 22nd round of international negotiations on the settlement of the situation in Syria within the framework of the Astana process began in Astana.
11 delegations arrived in the capital of Kazakhstan to participate in it. The group of negotiators from the Syrian Government is headed by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriate Affairs Ayman Raad, from the Syrian opposition – Ahmad Toma.
The meeting is also attended by delegations of the guarantor countries: Russia - headed by the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Syrian settlement Alexander Lavrentiev, Turkey – headed by the Director General of Bilateral Political Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Mustafa Yurdakul, Iran – headed by the Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran for Special Political Affairs Ali Asghar Haji.
Representatives of Jordan, Lebanon and Iraq, as well as international organizations – the United Nations, the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and the Red Cross - are present as observers at the talks.
As previously reported, bilateral and trilateral consultations of delegations will be held on November 11-12 this year, following which a plenary session and a press conference of the heads of delegations will be held.
