MINISTER OF SCIENCE AND HIGHER EDUCATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN SAYASAT NURBEK MET WITH THE POPULATION OF ALMATY
On November 11, Almaty hosted a meeting of the Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek with the city's population. The main topics of the meeting were the development of science and higher education, as well as key achievements and innovations implemented in 2024.
During the meeting, the head of the department presented the results of the Ministry's work for the first half of the year and outlined the priorities provided for by the Concept of Development of Higher Education and Science for 2023-2029. According to him, the changes to the Concept are aimed at improving the quality of higher education and increasing the effectiveness of scientific research. The main areas of work include: the development of higher and postgraduate education, lifelong learning and the development of the scientific field.
The Minister also highlighted the reforms aimed at strengthening the system of higher education and science in Kazakhstan.
"The Ministry is actively implementing the instruction of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to open branches of leading foreign universities in Kazakhstan by 2025. One of the initiatives was the creation of a research academic hub in Central Asia, which will attract young people from regions with a population of about 2 billion people," S. Nurbek said.
Since the establishment of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the agency has been striving to position Kazakhstan as an academic research center in the region. The Minister stressed that through cooperation with foreign partners, the Ministry plans to transform regional state universities into international research universities.
In addition, Sayasat Nurbek noted an increase in the volume of state orders for personnel training. In the 2024-2025 academic year, 94,251 grants were allocated for higher education. Special attention is paid to the training of technical and engineering specialists, including the launch of the new Kazakh National University of Water Management and Irrigation.
One of the key achievements of the ministry was the introduction of a pilot project of digital universities on the basis of KazNTU named after K.Satpayev and VKTU named after D.Serikbayev. Strategic partnerships were also concluded with such global companies as Coursera, Huawei Technologies Kazakhstan and Binance Kazakhstan. The introduction of artificial intelligence courses together with Google has become an important step in providing students with relevant knowledge and skills.
The Minister stressed the importance of supporting young scientists and creating conditions for their scientific growth. The Ministry has signed an agreement with Otbasy Bank JSC, within the framework of which a loan program for young scientists has been launched. "Our task is to create conditions for Kazakhstani youth to develop in the scientific field and apply their knowledge to solve important tasks in the country's economy," the minister added.
The meeting also discussed the international successes of Kazakhstani universities: this year, 21 Kazakhstani universities entered the international QS World University Rankings, and 29 universities participated in the Times Higher Education ranking.
After his speech, the Minister answered all the questions of the residents of Almaty. The discussions made it possible to establish a direct dialogue, clarify issues of concern and collect suggestions from residents.
At the end of the meeting, a reception of citizens on personal issues was held, at which residents of Almaty expressed their willingness to actively participate in the development of educational and scientific initiatives. Summing up the meeting, the Minister noted that the opinions of the participants will be taken into account in the further work of the department.
