THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH, WITH THE SUPPORT OF UNICEF, PRESENTED NEW SCHOOL NUTRITION STANDARDS
16.11.2024 18:49:57 2708Today, the Ministry of Health, together with the Ministry of Education with the support of UNICEF, national experts held a round table on the topic "School nutrition: problems and solutions" to discuss how to improve nutrition in schools.
The participants of the meeting got acquainted with the draft of a new standard of school meals, which should become the basis for catering in educational institutions. It covers all stages: from grocery shopping to cooking and training of employees working in this field.
The diet of schoolchildren is planned to be revised taking into account the usefulness and nutritiousness of dishes, based on the norms of energy and nutrient consumption, as well as salt, sugar and saturated fats.
The Ministry of Health, together with the Kazakh Academy of Nutrition, has developed a number of recommendations to improve the nutrition of students, including special dietary needs. This applies to children with diabetes mellitus, food allergies, lactose intolerance and other characteristics.
The experts also discussed how to make school meals affordable and equal for all children, regardless of region.
Currently, 1.7 million students are covered by free school meals in Kazakhstan.
A healthy diet is important for the full and harmonious physical and mental development of children.
A working group consisting of specialized nutrition specialists and representatives of interested government agencies has been established on the basis of the Ministry of Education to discuss the draft Nutrition Standard
