Since the beginning of the year, 332 drug crimes have been detected in the Karaganda region and 445 kg of drugs have been seized. Two clandestine phytolaboratories have been liquidated. The activities of organized criminal groups in the field of drug trafficking were suppressed: 16 participants were detained, the annual turnover of whose financial resources exceeded 2.5 billion tenge.
At a meeting of the regional interdepartmental headquarters, representatives of government agencies involved in the implementation of the country's anti-drug policy discussed what else can be done to make the region a drug-free territory.
The police are fighting drug graffiti.
– In order to intensify work in this direction, large-scale actions under the motto "STOP graffiti" were held in Karaganda, Temirtau, Sarani, Shakhtinsk and Balkhash with the assistance of volunteers and the public. As of October 16 this year, 410 raids were carried out, 11,902 drug graffiti were painted over, – said the acting head of the police department, Zhaskairat Kairov.
In the age of modern technology, criminals are increasingly using social networks and messengers to distribute drugs. The regional police blocked 177 websites and pages advertising drugs.
Special attention was paid at the meeting to the treatment and prevention of drug addiction. In the near future, a gas chromatograph will start working at the regional Mental Health Center. According to the head of healthcare Bibigul Tulegenova, with the help of this equipment it will be possible to detect more than 100 types of drugs in the human body.
The head of the region, Ermaganbet Bulekpayev, noted that drug addiction prevention in universities, colleges and schools should be mandatory and carried out in an accessible form. It is also necessary to strengthen awareness-raising work with parents.
– The police, together with the mayors of cities and districts, should regularly conduct door-to-door inspections, identifying potential advertising sites with narcotic content in advance. The Health Department needs to organize regular screenings among schoolchildren and students. A consultation center should be opened at the regional dispensary, which will provide anonymous consultations. It is necessary to create a social movement in the region from among caring citizens, the main purpose of which will be the fight against drug addiction. Karaganda region should become a drug–free region," stressed Ermaganbet Bulekpayev.
