Methods of treatment of complex eye diseases in children are being actively improved in Kazakhstan. The Eye Microsurgery Department of the Almaty Children's Emergency Medical Center will begin performing operations for complex vitreoretinal pathologies using the Constellation Vision laser surgical system.
Vitreoretinal surgery covers operations for severe diseases of the retina and vitreous body that require high technology. This area is actively developing all over the world.
"In the Eye Microsurgery Department of the Almaty Children's Emergency Medical Center, our young patients will be able to undergo operations for the treatment of retinopathy of prematurity, familial exudative vitreoretinopathy, Coates retinitis and other serious eye diseases," said Nazgul Imangalieva, Acting Head of the Almaty Public Health Department.
Previously, children with such pathologies were sent abroad according to a quota. Now they will be able to get the necessary help here in Almaty. In recent years, there has been an increase in cases of retinal and vitreous pathology in children in Kazakhstan.
"Given the widespread use of gadgets, the problem of visual pathologies is becoming more and more urgent, and laser vision correction is an important task of pediatric ophthalmology. The introduction of laser microsurgery at our Center will improve access to treatment and increase the professionalism of our specialists," said Alibek Smagulov, Director of the Center.
"From January to October of this year, 57 Kazakhstani children were forced to travel abroad for vitreoretinal operations. Thanks to the new equipment, parents will no longer seek funds for operations abroad," added AYALA Foundation President Aidan Suleimenova.
The center received the modern Constellation Vision laser surgical system thanks to the AYALA Charitable Foundation with the support of the Chevron company.
