Karaganda specialists are mastering the advanced method of endoscopic examination – capsule endoscopy. The training took place at the Multidisciplinary Regional Children's Hospital of Karaganda and became the first of its kind in the region. The doctors received practical knowledge from Rinat Baigireev, a freelance pediatric surgeon from Astana, and Viktor Isakov, a surgeon, a representative of the video capsule manufacturing company.
Capsule endoscopy is a modern and safe method of examining the gastrointestinal tract. It appeared in 2001. According to doctors, this minimally invasive and comfortable diagnostic method is especially suitable for children.
"If conventional gastroscopy or colonoscopy allows you to examine only certain parts of the gastrointestinal tract (gastrosclopia – esophagus, stomach and duodenum, colonoscopy - colon), then capsule endoscopy helps to study the entire gastrointestinal tract – practically from mouth to anus. The patient is put on a special belt with antennas, and he swallows a capsule a little more than a centimeter in size. The capsule is equipped with a high-resolution camera (4K), as well as LEDs. They provide illumination. Depending on the speed of movement, the capsule takes from 2 to 18 pictures per second," the doctors explain.
The research process is accompanied by a video recording. The capsule takes about 80 thousand pictures, which merge into a single video sequence. It turns out to be a whole "film" about the internal state of the patient. If deviations are detected during the study, they are recorded in the protocol.
Such a study usually takes about 8 hours.
