Waste paper, plastic and team spirit: Eco-heroes of Karaganda

The contest "Ecogeroy-2024", organized as part of the campaign "Taza Kazakhstan", has ended in Karaganda. Students from the first to the seventh grade from 33 schools of the city competed for the title of the best.
According to the organizers, the main goal of the competition was to teach children and teenagers the basics of waste sorting and involve them in collecting waste paper and plastic bottles.
In the two main nominations "Collect waste paper – save the tree!" and "Recycling plastic – the planet needs air!" the winners were students of gymnasium No. 45.
– Our gymnasium has been participating in eco-actions at various levels since 2017. We collect waste paper, plastic, caps, batteries throughout the year. We have containers installed on the ground floor. And the kids know how to sort the trash. This time, the most active students, a team of 356 people, collected 1 ton 600 kg of waste paper, 65 kg of plastic, and made about 300 posts on Instagram. Such contests unite not only students of the class, schools, but also teachers and parents are involved in the work, – says Irina Deeva, deputy director for educational work at gymnasium No. 45. – Now the winners are determined to help teach kids the correct sorting of garbage.
The students of the B. Momyshuly school won in the nomination "Ecomotivation". The gymnasium named after him was recognized as the best "Eco-ambassador". Abaya. The students of the gymnasium named after him won in the category "Team spirit". Shakarima. In the nomination "Young Environmentalists", the students of the center school with additional education No. 13 became the best.
School teams shared their experiences on social media. More than 500 messages about the contest were posted on Instagram. Such posts inspired other students and subscribers to take a more responsible attitude to the environment. The students of gymnasium No. 45 were recognized as the most active.
The main result of the competition is 3573.52 kg of waste paper and 540.75 kg of plastic bottles. All the waste has been sent for recycling.
The organizer of the competition is the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Management of the Karaganda region with the support of the Department of Education of the city of Karaganda and LLP "Recyclables Karaganda".
