Kazakhstan and Nigeria agree to expand economic relations
14.02.2025 23:44:43 1204Astana, February 6, 2025 – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Alibek Kuantyrov met with a Nigerian business delegation led by Adeni Adesoji, a representative of the Kingdom of Ife, Executive Secretary of the Kazakhstan-Nigeria Business Council.
During the meeting, the parties discussed opportunities for expanding trade, economic and investment ties, as well as prospects for cooperation in the mining industry, agriculture, transport, logistics, IT and energy sectors. During the talks, special attention was paid to strengthening the political dialogue between Kazakhstan and Nigeria. In this regard, the meeting of President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President of Nigeria Boli Ahmed Tinubu was held in Abu Dhabi in January 2025 within the framework of the international summit "Sustainable Development Week".
A. Kuantyrov noted that there is great potential for expanding cooperation between Kazakhstan and Nigeria. According to him, Nigeria can become an important partner that will give impetus to the expansion of Kazakhstan's ties on the African continent.
"Kazakhstan and Nigeria have great opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation in key areas of the economy. We are ready to expand trade relations, jointly develop infrastructure and investment projects, as well as deepen political dialogue. I am confident that our work in this direction will strengthen partnership between the two countries and open up new opportunities for business and economic growth," the Deputy Minister said.
In turn, A. Adesoji said that Nigeria is interested in developing bilateral cooperation with Kazakhstan and noted the importance of Kazakhstan as a strategic partner in Central Asia. He expressed confidence that expanding economic and investment ties between the two countries will open up new opportunities for business, create jobs and develop technological exchange.
In addition, the parties paid special attention to the development of transport infrastructure and logistics. Kazakhstan's participation in international transport corridors may contribute to increasing trade flows between Asia and Africa.
The talks discussed the visit of the Kazakh delegation to Nigeria, scheduled for February 2025. During the visit, meetings will be held with representatives of the Nigerian Government and business groups, and cooperation projects in priority areas will be considered. The Kazakh side expressed confidence that this visit will be an important step towards strengthening bilateral partnership.
As a result of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue the dialogue and intensify cooperation at all levels, including through sectoral consultations and business forums.
