A new reservoir and 76 canals are planned to be built in Zhambyl region

The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, in cooperation with the Islamic Development Bank, plans to build a new reservoir in Zhambyl region. In addition, 76 canals and 1 existing reservoir will be repaired.
In particular, 18 canals will be restored in Baizak district, 1 canal in Talas district, 11 canals in Sarysu district, 1 canal in Merki district, and 45 canals in Shu district. Meanwhile, the Karakonyz reservoir in Kordai district will be reconstructed. A new Akmola reservoir will be built in the Baizak district.
The reconstruction and construction of reservoirs will improve the quality of water supply to 9,300 hectares of land. Meanwhile, the repair of 76 canals will improve the water supply to 24.7 thousand hectares of arable land in the region.
“In addition, this year, it is planned to repair sections of 7 canals with a length of 67 kilometers in the region. Last year, 69 kilometers of canals were repaired. This will improve the quality of irrigation water supply to 13 thousand hectares of arable land,” said Kudaibergen Korganbayev, Director of the Department for the Development of Water Resources Facilities.
