In the Almaly district of Almaty, this year the pedestrian zone of Zhibek Zholy Avenue (from Nazarbayev Avenue to Seifullin Avenue) will be renovated on the principle of "facade to facade". Also, the square near the Musrepov Children and Youth Theater will be renovated. This was announced by the mayor of the city, Yerbolat Dossayev, during a meeting with residents of the district.
The Almaly district is the historical center of the city, where large-scale improvement works have been carried out over the past three years.
One of the important projects is the reconstruction of the M. Mametova and A. Moldagulova square, a favorite recreation place for city residents. The main construction and installation works were completed in December 2024. Landscaping and planting flower beds are scheduled for spring 2025.
Another major project aimed at improving the city is the improvement of Lake Sairan. In December last year, the installation of an irrigation and water supply system, the laying of power and lighting cables, as well as the felling of trees for sanitary purposes were completed.
This year, in April-May, when the sun warms up, it is planned to lay paving stones, install small architectural objects, and plant more than 200 large oak trees and other greenery.
It should be noted that the most visited pedestrian street in the Almaly district - Panfilov Street (10-15 thousand people per day) - has not been repaired since 2017. In November 2024, the project to improve the section from Kabanbai Batyr Street to Zhibek Zholy Avenue was completed. As part of the project, roadside and small architectural objects were renovated, the green area was increased by 20%, and perennial shrubs were planted.
In addition, this month, the development of a master plan for the major repair of the pedestrian zone of Zhibek Zholy Avenue (from Nazarbayev Avenue to Seifullin Avenue) on the principle of "facade to facade" and the reconstruction of the square near the Musrepov Children and Youth Theater will begin.
These works are scheduled to be completed in November 2025.
