The Republican Headquarters for Coordination and Leadership of Emergency Situations Prevention is located in Atyrau. Preventive measures will be held here for two days.
The training session, organized to hone the actions of local executive bodies in managing forces and facilities during floods, and to interact with operational management organizations, was attended by Deputy Akim of the region Kairat Nurtayev, Vice Minister of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kegen Tursynbayev, and law enforcement agencies and volunteers, - the press service of the regional akim reports.
Opening the training session, Kairat Nurtayev touched upon the work done to prevent emergencies in the region and wished success to the headquarters.
- The Atyrau regional akimat pays special attention to the material and technical equipment of the regional Emergency Situations Department. Fire-fighting depots were put into operation, 30 units of equipment and tools were purchased through leasing, and special equipment for spraying water at heights up to 24 floors was purchased throughout the republic. A new building was put into operation for the water rescue department of Atyrau city and equipped with the necessary equipment. These works are being implemented in accordance with the instructions of the Head of State, as a result of the joint work of the Atyrau regional akimat and the Ministry of Emergency Situations, - said K. Nurtayev.
Then the emergency siren was activated. Through this, the readiness of the territorial-level notification system for the “Attention of all!” alarm was checked.
Then, urgent emergency rescue operations were carried out along the Ural River near the village of Besikti. Here, the bank was secured and the dams were strengthened. The residents of Besikti were evacuated to the “Kunshuak” kindergarten, and water pumping operations were carried out with trailer motor pumps. Also, actions to rescue a person who fell into the water after crossing the ice on a car on the Ural River near the village will be worked out.

As part of the training, command and staff exercises to work out actions to eliminate emergencies, practical actions with emergency services and civil protection units will be held for two days in the cities of Almaty and Shymkent, as well as in Almaty, Atyrau, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, Kyzylorda, Mangistau, Turkestan and Zhetysu regions.
Last year, 590 km of dams were installed along the Ural River, and 49 culverts were installed on roads of republican and regional significance. 7 km of embankments have been strengthened in the river sections, and 121 km of the bottom has been deepened.
1,510 people and 244 pieces of equipment, including swimming vehicles and helicopters, are ready to combat the consequences of high water.
