In Almaty, on the instructions of the city akim Yerbolat Dossayev, work has begun to demolish illegally constructed retail outlets and non-stationary retail facilities (SESN) located on state-owned land.
The purpose of this measure is to combat irregular trade and increase security in the city space.
In three days, a commission consisting of representatives of state and law enforcement agencies, maslikhat deputies and members of the public council demolished 211 illegal retail outlets (102 kiosks and 109 force meters), and 270 entrepreneurs were issued warning letters.
It should be noted that all illegal retail facilities are being demolished, regardless of the type of activity. Particular attention is being paid to places selling street food. Several such facilities, in particular, were demolished near the state circus on Abay Avenue. These retail outlets are not connected to utility networks, electricity, and violate the rules of landscaping. Residents of the city say that buying food in such places is dangerous to health.
“Illegal stalls are often placed on ditches, sanitary standards are not observed, there are no toilets. They are located near schools and places where children walk. It is not surprising that they get food poisoning later,” says city resident Evgeny Bogachev.
Timur Yeleusizov, a city council deputy who is actively involved in urban development issues, noted that all of the demolished shops were illegally connected to power lines, which puts an additional burden on the city’s infrastructure.
“This puts an additional burden on the city’s power lines. "It is necessary to support such initiatives to regulate their activities," he said.
Let us recall that in accordance with the resolution of the Almaty Akimat No. 3/469 dated August 27, 2024, 142 places for the placement of 157 SESNs were approved in the city.

In total, about 500 illegal facilities will be demolished in Almaty. Work on identifying and removing SESNs will continue.
