As part of the Year of Working Professions declared by the Head of State, the largest event in the field of technical and vocational education, the “City of Working Professions” festival, was opened in Astana. The solemn event was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Tamara Duissenova, Minister of Education and Science Gani Beisembayev, as well as representatives of large companies, enterprises and organizations, college students, and experts, the press service of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.
Welcoming the guests of the festival, the Minister of Education and Science noted the importance of transforming the technical and vocational education system. Starting from September 1, 2025, the amount of per capita funding for colleges will double. Currently, 518 enterprises provide patronage to colleges, and in the future it is planned to increase their number to 4 thousand.
“One of the main events to be implemented during the Year of Working Professions will be the internationalization of 10 colleges in the country. The main goal is to increase their competitiveness at the global level and bring educational programs into line with international standards. It is planned to introduce the experience of Hungary in training specialists in nuclear energy, as well as use the experience of China in the field of IT, drone construction and mechanical engineering,” said Gani Beisembayev.
In addition, a National Competence Center will be created in Astana to support and develop students of technical and vocational education institutions. Such centers are successfully operating in China, South Korea and the UAE. And this fall, the 1st TurkicSkills - the professional skills championship among Turkic-speaking countries - will be held in Aktau.
It is worth noting that the “City of Working Professions” festival is the first event that officially opens the Year of Working Professions. This is a platform created for mutual cooperation between future specialists, employers, technical and vocational education institutions. The unique format of the festival will allow guests to get acquainted with the features of various professions and try themselves in various sectors of the economy with the help of interactive platforms and specialized equipment.
In the "City of Worker Professions", eight thematic streets have been opened: mining and metallurgy, mechanical engineering and transport, power engineers and oil workers, agriculture, water management specialists, construction workers, as well as streets of rescuers, firefighters, medicine, as well as streets dedicated to future professions. In addition, 40 creative houses are presented, demonstrating various areas and directions of professional development.
Within a few days, various seminars and master classes, a hackathon on the topics of the oil and energy industry, a parade of professions, a job fair, presentations of startups, concerts and trainings will be held in the city.
The festival is organized by the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, supported by the ministries of industry and construction, transport, energy, agriculture, ecology and natural resources, water resources and irrigation, digital development, innovations and aerospace, emergencies, healthcare, as well as national companies and enterprises of the country.
Reference: There are 772 colleges operating in the vocational education system of Kazakhstan, where 556 thousand students study. Thanks to the support of the Head of State, scholarships for college students have doubled in 2 years. In 2025, the provision of students with free technical and vocational education in popular specialties will amount to 153 thousand, which is 10 thousand more than last year. 70% of the state order will be directed to technical specialties, including mechanical engineering, transport, energy, IT, construction, etc.
