In September 2024, a commission inspected the city's flood-prone areas, and recommendations were made to district akims for 18 areas to take the necessary measures, including cleaning and laying canals, installing a drainage system, etc. This was announced by Kuanysh Toksarin, head of the Emergency Situations Prevention Department of the city's Emergency Situations Department, at a briefing held at the capital's Communications Service, the official website of the capital's akimat reports.
"The month of anti-flood measures began in January, 51 raids were carried out in potentially dangerous areas, including explanatory work with residents of the housing sector and the distribution of propaganda materials.
Today, utilities have removed more than 5.5 million cubic meters of snow from the city's territory, more than 16.4 thousand meters of ditch-trough networks, 10,522 meters of collectors, and 573 rain-receiving wells have been cleaned," said Kuanysh Toksarin.
According to the speaker, in order to respond to flood phenomena in a timely manner, a general group of civil protection services was formed, consisting of 581 personnel, 505 units of equipment, and 131 motor pumps.
Emergency situations The Department of Transportation reminds residents and visitors of the capital to take precautions when the heavy snow melts. The department recommends immediately clearing the area around the house of snow and moving it to the roadside.
