It is well known that the total area of the dried-up Aral Sea basin is about 6 million hectares, of which 2.8 million hectares are ha belongs to Kazakhstan.
The dried-up Aral Sea bottom in our country is a territory of sandy and saline deserts, where it is necessary to take into account the forest suitability of the territories for phytoreclamation works.
In 2021, the Head of State set the task of carrying out forest reclamation works on an area of 1.1 million hectares in order to improve the environmental situation.
Over 4 years, saxaul was planted on an area of 475 thousand hectares, including:
- in 2021-73.5 thousand hectares (ZAO - 20.9 thousand hectares, ETRM - 52.6 thousand hectares);
- in 2022-108.5 thousand hectares (ZAO - 44 thousand hectares, ETRM - 64.5 thousand hectares);
- in 2023 - 166 thousand hectares (ZAO - 100 thousand hectares, ETRM - 66 thousand hectares) within the allocated funds.
In addition, in 2021-2023 In 2017, assistance to natural regeneration was carried out on an area of 197.0 thousand hectares.
In 2024 — 127 thousand. hectares (ZAO-100 thousand hectares, ETRM-27 thousand hectares).
Within the framework of the implementation of the project financed by the World Bank, the construction of a nursery with an area of 33 hectares in Kazaly was completed to provide planting material for work in the Aral Sea Basin. Under the project, saplings of saxaul and halophyte shrubs will be grown for further planting on the dried-up Aral Sea bed. The capacity of the nursery is 3 million. seedlings per year.
It is also planned to create a new forest nursery on the dried-up Aral Sea bed. Planting material obtained from this nursery is adapted to dry conditions, which increases the quality of planting material.
In addition, to improve the quality of work and provide ongoing scientific assistance, a branch of the Kazakh Research Institute of Forestry and Agroforestry Reclamation will be opened in Kyzylorda.
The institute's specialists will carry out work on observing agrotechnical measures during autumn-spring afforestation work in the ARF (correct implementation of sowing and planting schemes, collection and processing of forest seeds, digging and transportation of plant seedlings), scientific monitoring and analysis of the creation of forest plantations on the dried-up foothills of the Aral Sea.
