The holiday was established by the UN General Assembly in December 2015 to celebrate the significant contribution of women to science. Today, women are actively involved in the development of innovative technologies, environmental research, as well as in solving problems of sustainable development and climate change.
Doctor of Economic Sciences, Academician Gulbazar Mediyeva is the coordinator of the educational and scientific direction, as well as the work of the scientific community at the International Center for Green Technologies and Investment Projects. One of Gulbazar Akylykyzy's main achievements was the creation of a scientific and technical council (STC), which brought together 98 leading experts in the field of green technologies.
Thanks to her professionalism, the process of reviewing industry directories of the most advanced available technologies (AAT) was organized. This is an important step in the formation of scientifically based approaches to the development of a green economy in Kazakhstan.
Of the 102 researchers at the Institute of Botany and Phytointroduction, 75 are women. The Institute is headed by Gulnar Tokbergenovna Sitpaeva, Doctor of Biological Sciences.
For 10 years, she has been the head of the "Green Road of Central Asia" project to study the flora of the Tien Shan, in which representatives of several Central Asian countries participated. Gulnar Tokbergenovna also participates in various expeditions, including international ones.
And Nadezhda Chebotko, an employee of the Kazakh Research Institute of Forestry, has made a significant contribution to the development of forest science. She is engaged in the selection and varietal testing of common pine, as well as the preservation of the biodiversity of tree and shrub species using selection, introduction and biotechnology. Over the course of 40 years of scientific activity, she has published more than 90 scientific papers, received 5 patents and 4 copyright certificates. Co-author of the varieties of the common pine populations "Arakaragayskaya" and "Chebarkulskaya", as well as the author of the clones "Borovskaya-22", "Borovskaya-44" and the hybrid "Resistant pine".
The research of another female scientist Tamara Stekhareva contributed to increasing the forest cover of Kazakhstan and preserving unique ecosystems. The candidate of biological sciences, professor made a significant contribution to the geobotanical study of forest ecosystems, the preservation of forest species, including rare and endangered species in specially protected natural areas.
Currently, the share of women scientists involved in scientific research in our country is more than 10 thousand people. Today's holiday reminds us that scientific achievements are impossible without the active participation of women, and that supporting women in science contributes to the progress of all mankind.
