Kazakhstan and Tajikistan continue to strengthen strategic partnership and alliance relations
15.02.2025 00:03:24 1499Astana, February 12, 2025 – Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan – Minister of Foreign Affairs Murat Nurtileu held talks with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Muhriddin, who arrived in Astana on an official visit.
During the meeting, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation were discussed, in particular, priority areas of political, economic, water and energy, transit and transport, and cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries were considered.
The parties noted their mutual commitment to further strengthening strategic partnership and alliance in the spirit of friendship and mutual respect.
The heads of foreign affairs ministries reviewed in detail the progress of the practical implementation of the agreements reached within the framework of the mutual state visits of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Dushanbe and the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to Astana in 2023-2024.
Special attention is paid to further expanding trade and economic cooperation translated. Kazakhstan has been among the "three" of Tajikistan's largest trading partners for many years. Thanks to the measures taken, the volume of mutual trade increased by 7.4% last year and amounted to 1.2 billion US dollars. The parties agreed to take coordinated measures to achieve the goal set by the heads of state to bring trade turnover to 2 billion dollars.
The need to intensify mutually beneficial cooperation in the agricultural sector was noted, the share of which makes up more than 40% of the total trade turnover of the two countries. Kazakhstan is ready to mutually beneficially increase exports of traditional products - wheat, flour and confectionery. It was also noted that the creation of joint ventures for the processing of fruit and vegetable products for further export to third countries is also a promising direction.
"Tajikistan is a strategic partner in Central Asia for our country and a truly reliable ally. The Treaty on Allied Relations, signed at a high level last year, is undoubtedly a historic step,” said M. Nutrleu.
In turn, the Tajik minister noted that such a high level of mutual relations between the countries was achieved thanks to the trusting and friendly dialogue between the heads of state. “We highly value relations with Kazakhstan and attach great importance to the trade and economic track, which needs to be filled with practical content,” said S. Mukhriddin.
Prospects for interaction in the areas of space and IT technologies, artificial intelligence and digitalization were also considered. In particular, specialists from both countries successfully deployed the main components of the “Unified Platform of Internet Resources” and “SmartBridge” systems on Tajik servers. To implement these initiatives, more than 100 Tajik specialists are currently undergoing free training at the “Astana-Hub”.
A rich agenda of cultural and humanitarian cooperation was discussed. In accordance with the instructions of the heads of state, large-scale cultural days of Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have been held in the past two years, which have received positive feedback from public groups in both countries. A bust of Abai was erected in Dushanbe, as well as monuments to Ibn Sina and Rudaki in Astana. Joint projects in the field of higher education are being successfully implemented. In particular, the joint faculty of information technologies at the M. Osimi Tajik Technical University with the participation of the L. Gumilyov Eurasian National University is effectively operating.
During the meeting, the ministers confirmed their commitment to “balance the clock” on topical issues of the regional and global agenda, further close cooperation within multilateral structures, and mutual support in promoting international initiatives of the two states.
The heads of the Foreign Ministries noted the importance of further developing regional cooperation, joint efforts to strengthen peace and stability in Central Asia, including interaction within the framework of consultative meetings of the heads of Central Asian states, the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, the CICA, the SCO, the CIS, the CSTO and other international platforms.
During the official visit, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan S. Mukhriddin also received the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
