Planned work is being actively implemented in the Mangystau region to improve the environmental situation. Sand removal work, which began in the village of Senek in 2004, was later continued in the villages of Ushtagan, Tuschykuduk and Shebir. The main goal of these projects is to protect villages from shifting sands, that is, to restore ecological balance through the cultivation of saxaul.
According to the data, saxaul planting has been carried out in the village of Ushtagan since 2007, in Tuschykuduk since 2012, and in Shebir since 2016. As a result, a total of 3,329 hectares of green belt have been created in each village by 2021.
- In 2022, this area was transferred to the State Unitary Enterprise "Protection of Scenic Forests and Wildlife" by the decree of the akim of the Mangystau region. In 2018, a 6-year project was developed to protect 134 hectares of land from sandslides in the villages of Zharma, Sazdy and Sauysgan of the Mangystau region. In the first phase of the project, 203,634 saxaul and zhuzgin trees were planted on an area of 60.34 hectares between 2022 and 2024. The yield of this period was 85-90%. In the second stage, it is planned to plant 248,887 saxaul and juniper trees on the remaining 73.74 hectares in 2025-2027. Based on the instructions of the Head of State K.K. Tokayev during his working visit to Mangystau region in 2022, projects have been developed to identify the risk of developing dangerous aeolian processes in the settlements of Tazhen, Syngyrlau, Sam, Turysh and Akzhigit of Beineu district, Senek and Bostan of Karakiya district, Zharmysh and Akshymyrau of Mangystau district, and Taushyk of Tupkaragan district, - noted the Deputy Head of the Department of Natural Resources and Nature Management of Mangystau region, Khaidar Tuleushov.
72.5 million tenge was allocated from the local budget and was fully utilized. The project will be implemented in the period from 2025 to 2032. The total cost of the project for 10 villages is 2,968.0 million tenge.
In conclusion, starting from 2025, work on growing saxaul to combat desertification in the mentioned villages will continue in stages. These measures are aimed at improving the ecological situation, increasing soil fertility, and improving the quality of life of rural residents. These works, which are being carried out in the Mangystau region, will not only protect the environment, but also contribute to improving the socio-economic situation of rural residents.
