The XIX meeting of the General Assembly of the Institute of Standardization and Metrology of Islamic States (SMIIC) under the auspices of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Istanbul. Established in August 2010, SMIIC aims to form a unified system of accreditation, standardization and certification according to Halal requirements. The main goal of the institute is to develop standards that ensure the clean and safe consumption of Halal products and services, combining religious precepts with modern technologies.
At the meeting, the National Accreditation Center (NCA) was represented by its staff, who took part in discussions on the agenda, voting and evaluating SMIIC's work reports for 2024, as well as reviewing development plans for 2025. The participation of the NCA contributes to the development of unified approaches to the Halal quality system in Kazakhstan, focused on international standards.
Since 2020, the NCA has been actively working on the implementation of accredited Halal certification in the country. In 2023, the first domestic Halal conformity assessment body was accredited. Kazakhstan's involvement in SMIIC activities allows it to support the interests of consumers choosing Halal products, as well as promote trade between the OIC countries by removing technical barriers and coordinating policies in the field of technical regulation.
Today, SMIIC unites 44 countries with a total population of more than 2 billion people. Kazakhstan has been a full member of the OIC since 1995 and the SMIIC since 2018.
