Kazakhstan took part in the EU Conference on Disarmament and non-proliferation

Brussels, November 12-13, 2024 – First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Akan Rakhmetullin took part in the European Union Conference on disarmament and non-proliferation.
The event was also attended by high-level representatives of the European External Action Service, the European Commission, the United States, China, Great Britain, France and other countries, as well as the heads of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs, the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research, the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Non-Proliferation, the IAEA, the CTBTO, leading scientific, educational institutions and international analytical centers.
Speaking as Chairman of the second session of the Preparatory Committee for the 2026 NPT Review Conference, A. Rakhmetullin noted that, despite the existing challenges, the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) remains the fundamental and universal mechanism for nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, as well as a key forum for discussing these issues. He noted that the integrity of the Treaty is vital for ensuring global peace and security.
Expressing hope for maintaining a responsible collective approach in the work of the final Preparatory committee next year, the Kazakh diplomat stressed that this would create the basis for a successful Review Conference on the Implementation of the 2026 NPT, where specific and meaningful recommendations are expected to be adopted.
The conference participants noted the solid international legal framework in the field of nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament, stressed the importance of observing the principles of multilateralism and maintaining a constant dialogue.
