Vice Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askar Biakhmetov informed about the measures taken to ensure women's employment within the framework of the VIIIth Republican Forum of rural women of Kazakhstan "The role of rural women in shaping sustainable development priorities", held in Astana.
In his speech, Askar Biakhmetov noted that the Head of State in his Message to the People of Kazakhstan dated September 2 this year, 2025 was declared the Year of Working Professions, which will be aimed at promoting the idea of hard work and professionalism in society.
"Women in Kazakhstan predominantly work in the service sector, especially in education and healthcare, where the proportion of women is more than 70% of the employed. At the same time, in sectors such as construction, transport and industry, the proportion of women is significantly lower. This indicates a high proportion of women in professions related to nursing and training, reflecting global trends in the gender division of labor.
Half of the women are employed in positions that require a high level of skills – these are positions of managers, professionals and specialists. The proportion of women among professionals is 64%, which underlines the contribution of women to highly qualified fields of activity," the Vice Minister said.
He also noted that the least number of women work in professions that require technical skills, which reflects the industry specifics of gender employment. A low level of skills is typical for 17% of women employed in jobs that do not require qualifications.
"As of November 1 this year, 315.5 thousand women, including 165.5 thousand rural women, were covered by active measures to promote employment.
In total, since the beginning of 2024, 239.9 thousand women have been employed, including 131.3 thousand for permanent jobs, 108.6 thousand for state–subsidized jobs, which is more than 45% of the total number of employed," Askar Biakhmetov said.
Within the framework of the forum, an award ceremony for the winners of the Coca-Cola Belesteri-2024 competition and the awarding of a grant to them took place. Saltanat Rakhimbekova.
A panel session "Tools to support women's initiatives" was also held and expert platforms were organized: "The role of women in ensuring food security", "Digitalization and new technologies for rural women", "Education and professional development of women in rural areas".
