Today, the results of the national championship of working professions WorldSkills Kazakhstan – 2024 were summed up. It was attended by more than 550 college students who passed the regional stages. For three days, they competed for the title of the strongest in 30 competencies. 558 experts assessed the professional skills of the participants at the work sites.
Minister of Education Gani Beisembayev, speaking at the closing ceremony of the IX Republican Championship of Professional Skills, noted the importance of the event for the entire system of technical and vocational education. The WorldSkills movement reveals the potential of future specialists and increases their competitiveness.
"The Year of Working Professions announced by the President proves the special importance of technical and vocational education for the whole country. Today, the system faces new challenges and ambitious tasks to introduce new technologies into the economy, increase the demand for qualified personnel and change the requirements for specialists. We will take all necessary measures to provide every young specialist with high—quality education and skills in demand in the labor market," the minister said.
In total, according to the results of the three-day championship, 108 winners were identified in 30 core competencies, including such significant ones as: electrical installation, energy, bricklaying, body repair, energy, cooking and restaurant business, IT solutions for business, WEB technologies, mobile robotics, mechatronics, prototyping and others. They won 32 gold, 37 silver and 39 bronze medals. 155 participants received "Medallions of Distinction".
The national teams of Astana and Abai region became the leaders in the team competition, Almaty took the second place and Karaganda region took the third place.
It should be noted that the winners received job invitations from leading companies in the country and the opportunity to join the national team to participate next year in the EuroSkills championship in Denmark.
For reference: 772 colleges in Kazakhstan have more than 565 thousand students. The coverage of free technical and vocational education in popular specialties amounted to 90%, of which 70% is directed to technical specialties.
