Today, a meeting was held with children's ombudsmen on the topical topic "Balalardyn kauipsizdigin kamtamasyz etudegi zamanaui son-katerler". This event is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kazakhstan's ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and World Children's Day. It was attended by more than 50 children's representatives, as well as regional commissioners for children's rights. The organizers of this event are the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Commissioner for Children's Rights of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the United Nations Children's Fund UNICEF.
The event consisted of three thematic blocks where children could express opinions on key issues and propose solutions to problems. Topics of discussion included the rights of the child, protection in the digital world and the environmental footprint.
The First Vice-Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Natalia Zhumadildaeva made a welcoming speech. She emphasized that the well-being of children is the main priority of the state policy of Kazakhstan.
"Protecting the rights of children is our common task. It is extremely important that every child feels supported, cared for and heard. It is no coincidence that the Institute of Children's Representative offices was created, which became a platform that gives children the opportunity to be heard. Today, new horizons are opening up before us: a new stage in the activities of children's ombudsmen is beginning, and the work of regional commissioners for children's rights is intensifying. Our common task is to join forces for the benefit of children. In your person, you will represent the voice of children in each region and become assistants for adults in ensuring and protecting children's rights," the First Vice Minister noted.
The parties discussed the importance of protecting the rights and safety of the younger generation, and also held trainings to develop their skills and knowledge.
"We are glad not just to take part in today's dialogue, but to conduct it. We, the children, have our own ideas and vision on how to make the world safer and better, so that every child has all the opportunities for development," said Ruslan Zakharenko, Children's Ombudsman of Astana.
Today, 6.8 million children live in Kazakhstan. State policy is actively aimed at achieving international standards for the quality of life of children. Significant progress has been made in the 30 years since the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In 2020, children's representative offices were established in each region, formed from schoolchildren, and the status of the regional commissioner for children's rights was consolidated in order to more effectively take into account the interests of children at the local level.
