Astana hosted the Second Forum of partners in the name of health "Environmental protection problems and possible solutions through the interaction of humans, animals and the environment" with the participation of key high-level international partners from WHO, the UN, the EU, leading experts, representatives of the diplomatic corps.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the WHO Country Office in Kazakhstan, organized a second meeting of all stakeholders to discuss key national environmental priorities and call for joint efforts to reduce the negative impact of environmental factors on human health.
"In his annual Address to the People of Kazakhstan, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev outlined the improvement of ecology and respect for the environment as a priority for our Government. The problem of the Aral Sea remains urgent, which is one of the most significant environmental crises in our region. This spring, Kazakhstan faced severe floods that caused significant damage to many regions of the country. The holding of our Forum underlines the urgent need to take measures to improve the environmental situation," the Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan noted in her welcoming speech to the forum participants.
The purpose of the Second meeting of the Partners Forum for Health was to discuss key health issues, policies and improvement strategies aimed at strengthening the ecological background and the environment both in the whole country and in individual regions most vulnerable to environmental disasters, in particular, the problem of the Aral Sea region was raised at the round table.
"On behalf of the WHO Regional Office for Europe, I express our sincere gratitude for the invitation to the II Partners for Health Forum. Today we discussed the environmental impact on public health in areas such as Kyzylorda, Ulytau and Atyrau. This Forum has proved to be an excellent platform for inviting donors and partners to cooperate and take joint measures. I also thank the Government of Kazakhstan for its significant progress in implementing the One Health approach, which plays an important role in studying the impact of the environment on human health," said Robb Buttler, Director of the WHO European Office for Infectious Diseases, Environment and Health.
According to the WHO representative in Kazakhstan, Dr. Skender Syla, only by combining efforts in the field of environment and emergency response can we significantly strengthen health systems.
"Kazakhstan is ready to become a dialogue platform for discussing global and regional environmental challenges. I am sure that together, by combining our efforts, we will be able to make a significant contribution to improving the health and well-being of people not only in Kazakhstan, but also around the world," A.Alnazarova stressed.
It should be noted that as a result of the meeting, a report on the events held by the Forum participants will be prepared to address the problems arising at the interface of human, animal and environmental interaction, as well as recommendations for strengthening intersectoral and interdepartmental cooperation.
