In Almaty, in honor of the 100th anniversary of the specialized gymnasium No. 12 named after Sh. A festive concert and a historical exhibition "School of the Century" took place at the Palace of the Republic. The event was attended by Akim of Almaty Yerbolat Dosayev, Minister of Education of Kazakhstan Gani Beisembayev, teachers, graduates and students of the school.
The head of the city read out a congratulatory telegram from the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and congratulated the gymnasium staff on its 100th anniversary.
"The legendary school was the only educational institution in Almaty, where children were taught in the Kazakh language. In truth, the fate of our native language in the last century is closely linked to the history of this school. Despite the difficulties of that time, the gymnasium teachers made a huge contribution to preserving the traditions of national pedagogy and educating an entire generation of intellectuals. Thousands of graduates of the gymnasium worked tirelessly for the benefit of the development of our country. There are many outstanding personalities among them who have become the pride of our people," reads the congratulation of the Head of State.
The centenary of the specialized gymnasium No. 12 is held under the slogan "Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow", emphasizing the continuity of generations. Dedicated to the history of the school, the exhibition "School of the Century" reflects not only the stages of the gymnasium's formation, but also the development of the country's secondary education system.
Gymnasium No. 12 was established by the Decree of the Council of People's Commissars of the Kazakh SSR on October 22, 1924 as a regional experimental demonstration school. Initially, she had only one stage of education – primary. In 1936, it was this school that marked the beginning of the system of full secondary education in the republic.
An important period in the history of the 12th gymnasium is associated with the name of the hero of socialist labor, Honored Teacher of Kazakhstan Rafika Nurtazina, who was the director for 15 years. On her initiative, the school developed a scientific and methodological system for teaching the Russian language.
In 1972, the school was the first in the republic to introduce in-depth study of the English language, which contributed to the training of specialists with knowledge of three languages.
The school has educated more than 70 academicians, over 300 doctors of sciences, more than 500 candidates of sciences and many cultural figures.
Among the graduates are outstanding personalities: Kulyash Bayseitova, Abylkhan Kasteev, Askar Tokpanov, Nurgisa Tlendiev, Sydyk Mukhamedzhanov, Asset Beiseuov, Mansur Sagatov; statesmen Kayrat Sarybai, Shamsha Berkimbayeva, Kenzhaly Aimanov, Marat Ashim, Zhanar Aitzhanova and many other famous personalities.
Since 2007, specialized gymnasium No. 12 has been consistently ranked among the top ten schools in Almaty. In 2015, 2017 and 2020, the gymnasium was awarded the "Best School", "Best Institution", and "Best Teaching Staff" awards. In the 2022-2023 academic years, the gymnasium was awarded the title of "The best specialized gymnasium". To date, the gymnasium continues to work on the support and development of gifted children, paying special attention to the disclosure of their abilities.
