The scholarship holder of the Bolashak program, Rahat-Bi Abdysagin, became the first Kazakhstani to be awarded the prestigious 2024 Silver Medal of the Venerable Company of Musicians of London — one of the oldest and most significant awards in the UK. The award ceremony took place in mid-November in the British capital.
The Silver Medal, established in 1889, is awarded annually to the most outstanding young musicians selected from the students of the leading conservatories in Great Britain.
The year 2024 became a landmark in the creative career of Rahat-Bi Abdysagin. In February, he presented the world premiere of the opera The Bruce in four cathedrals of Great Britain. Opera is a key part of Rahat-Bi's doctoral research at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the University of St. Andrews under the Bolashak program.
An equally striking event was the publication of Rahat-Bi's book "Quantum Mechanics and Avant-garde Music" by the prestigious German publishing house Springer. This unique research at the intersection of physics and experimental music has caused a wide resonance in scientific and musical circles. The author has presented the book at leading universities in the Netherlands and Germany, including Heidelberg and Amsterdam. In addition, the book is already on the shelves of the main Oxford bookstore, one of the most famous and largest bookstores in the UK.
"I am glad that I was able to show how deep the connection between mathematics, physics and music is. This is an inspiration for new ideas in art and science," the composer said at the presentation.
Rahat-Bi Abdysagin is the author of more than 150 musical works that are performed in famous concert halls in Europe, Asia and America.
