FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE CENTRAL LIBRARY OF ALMATY: UNIQUE OLIF OPERATIONS IN NEUROSURGERY

26.11.2024 20:06:04 3009

The first operations using the OLIF (Oblique Lumbar Interbody Fusion) technique were performed for the first time in the Central City Clinical Hospital of Almaty.
This innovative minimally invasive approach has opened up new possibilities in the treatment of spinal diseases.
OLIF, or "oblique lumbar interbody fixation", is used to restore intervertebral discs and stabilize the spine in the following pathologies: degenerative spinal changes, herniated intervertebral discs, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis and kyphosis.
The technique allows to significantly reduce the traumatic nature of the intervention, accelerate the recovery process and minimize the rehabilitation period.
The operations were performed by leading neurosurgeons of Kazakhstan: Talgat Kerimbayev, Head of the Spinal Neurosurgery Department of the National Scientific Center of Neurosurgery (NCNH), Chief Spinal Neurosurgeon of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Marat Almatov, Head of the Neurosurgery Department of the Central City Clinical Hospital of Almaty.
"OLIF allows operations to be performed through a small incision, preserving muscles and ligaments. This significantly reduces blood loss, reduces the risk of complications and allows the patient to activate the next day. For example, as part of the master class, we performed intervertebral disc replacement operations in patients with lumbar instability at L4-L5 levels. The installed implants not only stabilize the spine, but also provide a physiologically correct position. Such methods help patients to return to their usual life faster," Talgat Kerimbayev noted.
In addition, three operations were performed to remove spinal cord tumors using an operating microscope and special equipment.
The Central City Clinical Hospital of Almaty continues to develop high-tech medical care, making it accessible to residents of Almaty and other regions of Kazakhstan.
