In Almaty, on behalf of the mayor of the city, Yerbolat Dosayev, old mercury and sodium (HCS and RCU) lanterns are being replaced with new LED lights. In 10 months of this year, more than five thousand lighting fixtures have already been replaced in the city.
The replacement of lamps covered entire streets and neighborhoods. For example, in the Nauryzbai district, 335 new lanterns were installed instead of the old ones at the intersection of Abai and Alatau Avenues. 260 lamps were replaced on Suyunbai Avenue in the Turksib district from Bekmakhanov Street to Krasnogorskaya. 120 lamps were changed on the streets of the Kokzhiyok microdistrict in the Zhetysu district, the same number in the Zerdeli microdistrict of the Alatau district.
"We had old yellow lanterns in the Shapagat neighborhood near school No. 151, which burned very dimly, it was still dark outside with the lights on. The children returned from lessons in semi-darkness, the parents worried and complained to the akimat. And now they finally heard us. The Almaty Kala Zharyk brigade arrived and replaced all the lanterns with new ones. They shine very brightly, now it's light outside at night, like in the daytime, we thank the company and the akimat for their comfort and care," says Sarah Janetova, an activist of the microdistrict.
"We are very glad that new powerful lamps have been installed for us, which now fully illuminate all the courtyards and the roadway on Bayseitova Street, where I live. There used to be old lamps here, which were of little use, they illuminated only a small spot in front of them and that was it. In addition, as we have learned, the new fixtures are much more economical. Previously, we had lamps of 300 and even 500 watts, now we have installed 100-watt ones, and there is much more light from them," explains Alexey Kasyanov from Almaty.
As told in Almaty Kala Zharyk, a high-quality LED lamp can continuously work up to 50,000 hours – this is 30 times longer than old-style devices. At the same time, energy savings can reach up to 90%. In addition, LED lamps do not cause difficulties with disposal, since they do not contain mercury and sodium.
Work on replacing old fixtures with new ones will continue in 2025. They are conducted jointly with the district akimats, on whose balance sheet the city's outdoor lighting lines consist.
