They were built only in 2021, but the water supply became possible thanks to the implementation of the large-scale Balkhash project, carried out on behalf of the Mayor of Almaty this year. 5 reservoirs with a capacity of 6.9 thousand cubic meters and 3 wells with a capacity of 7.3 thousand cubic meters per day were built along the emergency line.
Within the framework of this project in the MD. Kolsai this year, a main water supply network was built connecting the microdistrict with a water source - the Balkhash water intake station, with the installation of a pumping station and a reservoir with a volume of 400 cubic meters.

"The Head of State pays special attention to the water supply and sanitation of the city of Almaty. According to the instruction of the President, we intend to provide 100% coverage, especially in the upper part of the city, in the Medeu and Bostandyk districts, where the annexed territories are located, which have long remained out of attention. Md. Kolsai confirms this: there was nothing here, former horticultural associations, narrow corridors. We have built not only new networks, but also installed additional pumping stations and water reservoirs in order to provide these areas with stable and reliable water supply. We are not only working with networks, but also improving the road infrastructure. In accordance with the new standards for the implementation of such projects, work is underway to restore asphalt pavement to the entire width of streets to ensure the comfort of citizens," Yerbolat Dosayev said.
The head of the city noted that for 2025-2026 this work in the district will be continued. In two years, it is planned to build engineering networks with a total length of 136 km, covering more than 20 thousand residents of the district.
"Special attention is being paid to the Medeu district, and all neighborhoods will be put in order. In particular, mkr. Kamenskoye plateau, where we will build almost 50 km of networks. We will also cover the mkr. A mining giant, which is perceived by many as a prosperous area, but in fact there are no engineering networks in its upper part, so almost 30 km of new networks will be laid there. The MKR will be covered by engineering communications. Alatau, located 25 km from the city. I think by the end of 2025, the contours of the looped systems will be outlined and maximum water supply will be provided," the Mayor of Almaty summed up.
It should be noted that the water supply of the upper part of the Medeu district is located in the zone of influence of surface sources. In 2022, there was a 2.5–fold decrease in the water level in wells - from 150 to 60 m3. Then the mayor of the city decided to implement the first large-scale project to connect residents to underground water supply sources. Thanks to its launch, today more than 20 thousand residents of the Medeu district are provided with central communications.
In addition, 79.3 km of trunk and distribution engineering networks have been built in the district in two years. 14 pumping stations, 7 clean water reservoirs, 3 wells, and a water tower have been installed. Today, more than 35 thousand residents of the district, including remote areas where there has never been a sewer system, are provided with central communications.
In general, 219 km of new water supply and sanitation networks have been built in Almaty on behalf of Yerbolat Dosayev since the beginning of 2024, 27.3 km of existing networks have been modernized, which made it possible to reach about 60 thousand subscribers. In 2025, it is planned to build 240 km and modernize 48 km of networks.
