The Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan continues to summarize the results of 2024. This time we present the key points in the information sphere.
A high-profile event not only in the media space of Kazakhstan, but also in the entire Central Asian region was the opening of the Euronews office in Astana, whose team will inform the international audience about the culture, economy and heritage of Kazakhstan. The office will become an important platform for dialogue between cultures, as well as for the promotion of new ideas and creative solutions.
Currently, work is underway to create 20 projects. These include a show about culture, art and lifestyle – "Modern Nomads", a regional show about business and economics – "East-West Connect" and interviews with regional personalities – "Voices from Central Asia".
A key element of the cooperation will be the implementation of the Euronews Academy project, which involves conducting training sessions and master classes to improve the skills of employees of domestic media.
During this year, 580 radio and television stations of digital terrestrial television broadcasting were put into operation. Today, more than 95% of the country's population is covered by digital broadcasting.
Kazakhstan is actively expanding international cooperation in the field of radio and television broadcasting.
Memoranda have been signed with the General State Administration for Radio and Television Broadcasting of the People's Republic of China, the China Media Group Media Corporation, as well as with the Committee on Television and Radio under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan. These agreements provide for the expansion of content exchange and the implementation of joint media projects.
The Silk Way TV channel, which is part of the Presidential Television and Radio Complex, as well as the 24kz TV channel are included in the cable networks of Azerbaijan. Cooperation with colleagues from Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan is also being strengthened.
Kazakhstan also adopted the Law "On Mass Media", which provides for a one-year statute of limitations, a 5-day deadline for reviewing media requests, grant funding, and 60% of the state language in the media. In addition, the editorial board approved the Standard Rules for the Accreditation of Journalists.
This year, the Ministry continued its systematic work to improve the level of media literacy of the population and media industry specialists.
Every year, journalists and media students take training courses in the medical, environmental, religious, financial, economic, legal, military, interethnic, agricultural, digital, and oil and gas fields. Four memoranda were signed with the country's leading universities to train industry journalists.
In September, the capital successfully hosted the annual media and digital communications event, Astana Media Week 2024. This year, special attention was paid to the legal transformation of media, the development of multi-platform ecosystems, regional, sports and industry journalism, children's content and the role of situational centers in managing social tension.
The Tumar National Television Award has been held for the eighth year in a row, aimed at promoting and developing high-quality Kazakhstani television. This year, a new nomination "Best Emergency Reporting" was added. Also, since 2017, the URKER National Award has been held, awarded for achievements in the field of print, radio, and online journalism.
