The film "Citizens of the Roof" won in two nominations at the prestigious Golden Lion Film Festival (GLIFF), which was held in Kolkata, India.
The film was recognized as the best international feature film and won the Best Debut Filmmaker of Feature Film category. It is noteworthy that the film featured five female debuts at once: producer Aliya Sharipbaeva, screenwriter Zhanna Timofeeva, production designer Elena Aitova, actress Lidia Yartseva and director Gulshat Smagulova.
In addition, in December 2024, the film "Citizens of the Roof" was selected as a quarter-finalist at the prestigious Oniros Film Awards in New York.
The film was shot with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the National Cinema Support Center.
"Citizens of the Roof" is a film about the friendship of two special people: a young man with a difficult past, Damir, and an autistic teenager, Kostya. The film touches on the themes of social adaptation of people with special needs and the values of inclusion.
