Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan E. Nysanbayev took part in the opening of the Sixteenth session of the United Nations Conference of the Parties to Combat Desertification (COP16), which takes place from December 2 to 13 this year in Riyadh under the motto "Our land. Our future."
Within the framework of the SOR16 Conference, Minister E. Nysanbayev also participated and spoke at the Ministerial Dialogue "From Geneva to Riyadh and beyond: Improving global and national policies for proactive drought management", dedicated to discussing ways to accelerate drought resistance at all levels and scales, giving impetus and commitment to ambitious actions on drought resistance within the framework of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification.
"In recent years, humanity has witnessed an increase in the number of regions facing water scarcity and land degradation, which causes serious damage to agriculture and access to water resources. About 29 million hectares suffer from erosion, which reduces their fertility and threatens food security.
Global changes require global solutions. Now, more than ever, it is important to unite the efforts of states, international organizations, business and the public. Only through joint actions can we stop the spread of deserts, preserve the biosphere and ensure the future for future generations.
Kazakhstan is ready to further strengthen its participation in international and regional initiatives aimed at combating drought. We are confident that through joint efforts we will be able to contribute to the preservation of the environment, sustainable development of agriculture and improving the quality of life of future generations," Yerlan Nysanbayev stressed in his speech.
