Comprehensive preparations for the flood period of 2025 are being actively carried out in Zhambyl region. The Department of Emergency Situations, together with local executive bodies, has checked all hydraulic structures in the region, and preventive security measures have been taken in the necessary areas.
1,039 kilometers of canals, 1,615 kilometers of irrigation ditches, 406 culverts, 299 automobile and 115 railway bridges have been cleared in the region. Round-the-clock monitoring of the state of reservoirs is underway, including the discharge of water from the transboundary reservoir "Chon-Kakpa".
As part of the increase in the level of protection of 42 settlements located in risk zones, a Road map of flood prevention measures has been implemented. Work has been completed to strengthen river banks in the city of Taraz, as well as in the Bayzak and Zhambyl districts. To prevent flooding, 27 kilometers of canals and drainage systems have been expanded and deepened, as well as the capacity of 12 bridges has been increased. In addition, 396 reception points for the evacuated population have been prepared, reserves of inert materials and fuels and lubricants have been created.
Also, under the leadership of Akim of Zhambyl region E. Karashukeev, an aerial visual inspection of the Shu river of the Shu district was conducted with the participation of the head of the Emergency Department of the region A.Tokanova.
To date, it is known that the Shu River, which is regulated by the Tasotkel reservoir, poses a threat of flooding of a number of settlements, agricultural and automobile bridges, as well as roads of the Shu district. According to the Zhambyl branch of RSE Kazvodkhoz, as of November 29 of this year, the volume of water at the Tasotkel reservoir is 354.9 million m3. Water intake and discharge to the reservoir amounted to 120 m3/sec, that is, it operates in transit mode. The capacity of the Shu River is 200 m3/sec., however, on November 13 of this year, 109 km of the Merke-Shu-Burylbaital highway had a case of erosion of the Shu River bank (350 meters long) near the bridge.
In this regard, in order to prevent natural emergencies, work is being carried out to identify dangerous sections of the Shu River and ensure prompt coastal protection work.
The Emergency Department of the region, together with the Zhambyl branch of Kazhydromet, organized an operational exchange of meteorological information. Flood control works in the region are under strict control, and all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of the population.
