The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, together with akimats of six regions, is implementing 56 projects to protect settlements from spring floods.
In total, it is planned to ensure the safety of 84 settlements in Akmola, Aktobe, West Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, North Kazakhstan and Kostanay regions, in which a total of 580 thousand people live.
The projects envisage the construction of dams with a total length of 310 km. As of today, the work has been completed by almost 40%.
"Earlier, the Ministry's basin inspections, together with the Ministry of Emergency Situations and akimats, conducted a survey of 1,502 hydraulic structures across the country. Based on the results of the inspections, the owners of hydraulic structures were given recommendations on how to eliminate the identified deficiencies. To ensure free storage tanks for the spring flood, water is being discharged from reservoirs in the north, west, east and center of the country," said Yerbolat Ibraikhanov, Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
