As part of the instructions of the Head of State, national and private companies have been involved in planting forests on the drained bottom of the Aral Sea (ODAM).
The Ministry has concluded an agreement with KATCO, a joint venture between the French state-owned company Orano Mining SA and JSC NAC Kazatomprom, as well as the akimats of the Kyzylorda and Turkestan regions. Thanks to KATKO's financing, work has begun on the project starting in 2024. Its implementation will continue in 2025.
Results for today:
• 522 tons of seeds were collected.
• Sowing was carried out on 12,000 hectares (December 16-30, 2024).
• In January-February 2025, it is planned to sow on 108,000 hectares.
The project is aimed at restoring the ecological balance of the region, improving climatic conditions and supporting local communities. Planting on ODAM contributes to the prevention of further desertification and the return of life to the Aral Sea region.
