Snowfall in Almaty: 1,115 workers and 475 pieces of equipment involved

From 12 a.m. on January 8, snow began to fall in Almaty, which will end before 11 a.m.
As of 9 a.m., 14 cm of snow had fallen in the city, 22 cm on the Kamensk Plateau, and 20 cm of snow in Shymkent. The amount of precipitation was 9 mm, or 26% of the monthly norm (35 mm).
During the day period, 475 units of special equipment and 1,115 road workers are involved.
Since the beginning of snowfall, 194 sand spreaders have been sprinkling deicing materials.
As of 9 a.m., 3,600 tons have been used.
Since 04.30 hours, 25 snow-shoveling columns have been organized, accompanied by patrol cars of the traffic police.
The start of repeated sweeping, taking into account the refueling of equipment with fuel and deicing materials, is planned at 12.00 hours after the end of the snowfall.
Work has begun on the parallel removal of snow along the roadsides.
For prompt and high-quality cleaning, the practice of temporary partial closure of parking "pockets" has been applied in order to avoid parking by vehicles.
75 units of small-sized equipment organized mechanized cleaning of sidewalks, public areas, socially significant facilities, parking "pockets", manual cleaning of public transport stops, above-ground crossings.
According to the forecast of RSE Kazhydromet, the air temperature is 0...-2 °C during the day, with a further decrease after 12 o'clock to -5...-7 °C, at night -11...-13 °C. No precipitation is forecast until January 13.
Due to possible ice conditions, drivers are asked to observe the speed limit, the distance between cars and avoid parking in areas where snow removal equipment is operating.
Pedestrians are advised to exercise increased caution when crossing roads, especially in conditions of limited visibility and slippery surfaces.
