What measures are being taken in Astana to promote working professions

By decree of the Head of State, 2025 was declared the Year of Working Professions in Kazakhstan. In order to popularize these specialties, a number of measures are planned in the capital to promote the employment of the population. Ilya Skub, head of the City Department of Employment and Social Protection, spoke about this work at a briefing in the Communications Service, the official website of the Astana Akimat reports.
In order to increase the prestige of working professions and to reform the system of technical and vocational education, to promote the idea of diligence and professionalism in society, 2025 has been declared the Year of Working Professions in Kazakhstan.
"Within the framework of the Year of Working Professions, events are planned, including in the field of employment. Organization of vocational training for unemployed citizens in sought-after professions in the labor market of the capital, including the JOLTAP project, which covers more than 8,000 people, including more than 5,000 in working professions such as electric and gas welder, car driver, carpenter and furniture manufacturer, cook, hairdresser, seamstress, tailor, florist, fashion designer, shoe repair and key manufacturing, the basics of cabinet furniture manufacturing, an auto specialist in oil and tire replacement, and others," Ilya Skub said.
In addition, job fairs will be held in the capital on an ongoing basis, including for the employment of graduates.
Career guidance work with graduates of grades 9-11 on the choice of working professions will continue, covering more than 3,000 schoolchildren in the city.
At the same time, Open Days "My Profession" will be organized at the industrial and commercial facilities of the capital and a number of events.
"The goal is to provide high school students with a unique opportunity to familiarize themselves with work processes and their features, which are in demand at industrial and commercial facilities in the capital. These events are aimed at forming young people's ideas about various career paths, stimulating interest in technical and commercial specialties, as well as providing practical assistance in choosing a future profession," said the head of the city administration.
It is worth noting that by Labor Day, which is celebrated in Kazakhstan on the last Sunday of September, a Labor forum will be held in Astana, honoring labor veterans and industry leaders to popularize professions/ industries. The "Enbek Zholy" competition will also be organized in the following nominations: "The best labor dynasty", "The best young worker in production" and "The best mentor of working youth".
The results of the Paryz business social responsibility competition will also be summed up in the following nominations: "The best socially responsible Enterprise", "The best enterprise in the field of labor protection", "The Best Collective Agreement".
