There are 552 thousand hectares of irrigated land in the Turkestan region, which is a quarter of the national figure. Agriculture is one of the key sectors of the region's economy, so the development, repair and purification of water infrastructure is of particular importance. These issues were discussed at a meeting held in the akimat of the region. Akim of the region Darkhan Satybaldy stressed the importance of introducing water conservation technologies and streamlining water bodies, giving appropriate instructions to responsible persons.
– The problem of water shortage is getting worse every year. It is necessary to actively introduce water saving technologies, repair and clean channels to solve issues related to irrigation water, which directly affects the activities of farmers. Projects should be developed and work should begin on objects requiring immediate intervention. It is also necessary to study water bodies in private ownership and provide appropriate proposals. Akims of districts and cities, as well as heads of relevant departments are obliged to carry out the necessary work," Darkhan Satybaldy noted.
According to the head of the regional department of agriculture Nurbek Badyrakov, 9.4 billion tenge has been allocated from the regional budget this year. These funds are used to carry out major repairs of 11 water bodies and mechanical cleaning of 939 kilometers of drainage channels. As a result, it is planned to improve the water supply of 7.8 thousand hectares of land and the reclamation condition of 19.1 thousand hectares. The implementation of the projects "Overhaul of the Turkestan Main Canal", "Overhaul of the Aryssk main Canal" and "Overhaul of the Karaspan Main Canal" will allow an additional 233 million m3 of water to be delivered to the region.
The project of the second stage of repair of the Turkestan main canal is already ready. Its cost is 11.5 billion tenge. As part of the project, 25 culverts will be automated and 24.9 kilometers of the canal will be concreted, which will save 29 million m3 of water annually.
In addition, in order to prevent spring floods and provide farmers with high-quality irrigation water, 371.5 kilometers of canals and 136.7 kilometers of drainage channels were mechanically cleaned using specialized Turan su SHZHK MKK equipment.
Three local enterprises have been launched in the region to develop water saving technologies. The total cost of the projects is 12 billion tenge, and their annual production capacity is designed for 73 thousand hectares.
The meeting also heard a report by the acting head of the regional construction department, Abai Turkhanov. According to him, five large water projects with a total cost of 45.7 billion tenge are being implemented by order of the department. Currently, four facilities are under construction, and design and estimate documentation is being developed for another facility. Among them are the construction of the Baidibek Ata and Kensai-Koskorgan-2 reservoirs.
