The Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation has developed a draft Government decree on making additions to the list of water management facilities of particular strategic importance. In particular, a cascade of hydroelectric power plants on the Uba River in the East Kazakhstan region is planned to be added to the list.
The draft resolution is posted on the Internet portal of open regulatory legal acts. The adoption of the project will not require additional costs from the state budget.
"The changes proposed by the ministry are designed to ensure reliable flood water control to reduce flood risks and protect settlements in the region. It will also make it possible to form a complex of reservoirs with a total capacity of up to 500 million cubic meters to stabilize the water supply of citizens and industrial facilities. In addition, conditions will be created for watering over 3,000 hectares of agricultural land and generating additional amounts of environmentally friendly electricity," said Kudaibergen Korganbayev, Director of the Department for the Development of Water Facilities.
