International Choreographers' Day: The development of dance art in Kazakhstan

January 9 is International Choreographers' Day. This holiday unites creative people and reminds us of the special importance of dance as an artistic language.

An institution that plays an important role in the development of choreographic art is the Kazakh National Academy of Choreography in Astana. This is the only educational institution in the country that provides multi-level education in dance art. Here, traditions and modern trends intertwine, and professionalism reaches a world-class level.

In 2024, the Academy became a member of the International Dance Education Alliance (WDEA), opening up new horizons for international cooperation.

Students of the Academy have always proven their high level of preparation, winning prizes at such prestigious festivals as "Arabesque", "Budapest Ballet Grand Prix" and "Riga Spring". Last year alone, students brought 49 international awards to our country.

In addition, in 2024, 46 students of the Academy participated in the opening ceremony of the V World Nomad Games. The performances of this prestigious event were staged by famous choreographers - Evgeny Moiseyev, Amina Samarbayeva, Gumar Sultanbek and Nima Tokov. They proved that Kazakh dance art can conquer the largest stages.

The Academy also actively organizes national-level competitions. Among them, the most notable are the Dauren Abirov Men's Solo Dance Competition and the Shara Zhienkulova Kazakh Dance Competition. Another important event is the "Temps lie" international ballet festival. Master classes regularly organized at the Academy invite famous choreographers and inspire students to creative pursuits.

In addition, cooperation with the world's leading theaters and dance schools allows Academy students to participate in tours and performances on major stages such as Slovenia, Turkey, and Dubai.

One of the Academy's most important events this year is the unique gala ballet "Nomad Gala" and "Nomad Inspiration" to be held at the Astana Opera House. The director of this performance, which combines national motifs and modern choreography, is Academy graduate Gumar Sultanbek. The project partner is the ethno-folk group "HasSak".

International Choreographers' Day is a great reason to celebrate the importance of dance art, which unites people and inspires new achievements.
