On January 12, the first races of the new year were held in the capital. Astana residents covered a distance of 4 kilometers in the Botanical Garden, the website of the Akimat of Astana city reports.
About 600 people took part in the race.
"Running is a sport that does not depend on the season. Last year, there were many participants who went to the races in the cold, at night, and also on holidays. Today's sporting event was accompanied by a wonderful atmosphere. We presented the participants with commemorative medals and gifts. We thank everyone who supports a healthy lifestyle," said Kolbai Zhanbek, Head of the Planning Department for Mass Sports Events at the KSU "Directorate for Mass Sports Events" of the Akimat of Astana.
The youngest participant was 8 years old, and the oldest was 62 years old.
"When you follow the news every day, you see how new exotic diseases appear. Running is a cure for diseases. Over the past 4 years, I've been involved in sports, and I don't miss any running, duathlon, triathlon, table tennis, or cycling events. During this time, I have won 76 medals and created an association of elderly people. Retired people often reduce their physical activity. My goal is to be an example for my peers and grandchildren. Now both of my grandchildren have also started playing sports and are not far behind me," participant Marat Baukenov shared his thoughts.
At the end of the event, the participants received commemorative medals and gifts.
