The issues of social support for students of educational institutions of the East Kazakhstan region are one of the priorities of the state policy.
At the Kazakh-American Free University, students receive tuition discounts from 10% to 50%, depending on their categories.
In total, 473 students received discounts totaling 28 million 600 thousand tenge in 2024. The university encourages students to participate in scientific and social activities: the most active students receive scholarships of up to 35,000 tenge. Students also have the opportunity to apply for grants from the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In 2024, 11 students received grants from KAFU for a total amount of 5,350,000 tenge. These measures promote access to education and support students' aspirations for success.
S. Amanzholov East Kazakhstan University actively implements a socially oriented policy, providing assistance to students from socially vulnerable categories. According to the annually updated Regulations on Social Support Measures, undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, and College students can receive benefits and discounts on tuition. In 2024, the university provided support to 208 students for a total amount of 38 million tenge. Among the beneficiaries are orphans, students from large families, children with disabilities, as well as winners of Olympiads and competitions.
According to the deputy akim of the East Kazakhstan region, Yerbol Nurgaliyev, personalized scholarships have been established for the best applicants: the scholarship named after Abai (50,000 tenge per month) and the scholarship named after Amanzholov (25,000 tenge per month). The winners of the subject and creative Olympiads also receive university grants and full tuition benefits, which makes the university attractive to talented youth in the region.
At D. Serikbayev University, students receive tuition discounts from 35% to 100%, and orphaned undergraduates receive an additional 15%. It is possible for orphans and students with disabilities to pay their academic debts free of charge. Students from low-income and large families receive a monthly allowance of up to 15 thousand tenge in addition to the scholarship. Accommodation in the dormitory for orphaned and disabled students of all groups is free of charge. For large families, there is a 50% discount, and for students from densely populated regions, the same discount applies to the first year of study.
In the 2023-2024 academic year, 270 students from large families, 8 orphaned students and 1 student with disabilities received assistance. 19 orphaned students receive an increased scholarship, as well as monthly food payments. Five orphaned students received one-time allowances for uniforms (133,700 tenge). As President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in a recent interview with the newspaper Ana Tili, "The fate of our country is in the hands of the youth. All our reforms are carried out for the sake of the well-being of the younger generation. The task of the state is to financially and morally help young professionals." And now our goal is to create equal conditions for obtaining high—quality education, supporting those who especially need it," said Deputy Akim of the region Yerbol Nurgaliyev.
