In 2024, the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation launched the implementation of 137 projects for the development of water management facilities in Kazakhstan. The development of 201 design estimates has also begun.
In particular, work is underway to restore and improve more than 700,000 hectares of irrigated land, as well as the construction and reconstruction of canals with a total length of about 7,000 km.
"The work is carried out in accordance with the Water Resources Management System Development Concept for 2024-2030 and the Integrated Water Industry Development Plan for 2024-2028. These documents also provide for many other measures to reduce unproductive losses and accumulate additional volumes of water. For example, in 2024, the reconstruction of the Aktobe reservoir was completed, the construction of the Baydibek Ata and Karakuys reservoirs in the Turkestan region began, as well as the reconstruction of the Kapchagai and Kirov reservoirs," Gulmira Imasheva, Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Regulation, Protection and Use of Water Resources at the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, said.
